Overall, this shotgun is in Fine-plus condition as restored.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly and smoothly. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Model 42 was the first pump shotgun specifically designed for the .410 chambering and resembles its larger cousin the Model 12. This is a Winchester Model 42 .410 bore pump action shotgun built in 1954. While it appears to be a fairly normal field gun, the barrel is choked Improved Cylinder, a quite scarce option for the Model 42. While this option was introduced in 1952, production records are only available starting in 1953, showing as many as 350 of these barrels produced in 1953, as few as 49 produced in 1959, and a grand total of only 1,035 produced from 1953-1959 when the option was dropped from the catalog. The gun is in about Fine-plus condition, having been quite skillfully restored. This shotgun is sure to find a spot with a shooter who can appreciate a quality vintage Winchester as a shooter or with a collector who needs a 42 Improved Cylinder to round out their collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
