The stocks have a few scattered minor marks. There is a thin repaired crack in the top-front of the wrist. The top-rear corners of the slide handle each appear to have been sanded down a little. The LOP measures 14″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has some light wear with well defined checkering. Overall, the stocks are in about Fine condition as refinished.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 97% of its current metal finish. There is some minor scuffing on the magazine tube. The action shows minor operational wear. There is infrequent minor erosion under the finish, mostly at the receiver’s serial marking. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The receiver and barrel finish has gone to a plum hue. The screw heads range from sharp to lightly tool marked with strong slots. The markings are generally clear, the receiver’s proof is shallow. Overall, this shotgun is in Fine condition as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly and smoothly. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: This is a vintage post-war Winchester Model 42 standard grade .410 bore pump-action shotgun from 1957. The Model 42 was the first pump shotgun specifically designed for the .410 chambering and resembles its larger cousin the Model 12. The gun is in Fine-plus condition as refinished, showing wear consistent with little use since the new finish was applied, retaining a great bore and strong mechanics. It would make a fine addition to any collection, especially if you have a new generation of shooters to train. Please see our photos and good luck!
