Our Assessment: The Remington Rand Model 1911-A1 Type 3 retained many of the design elements of the original M1911, including its single-action, semi-automatic operation and seven-round magazine capacity. However, it incorporated some modifications and improvements over earlier models, such as a slightly longer grip safety spur and a different finish.

It was issued to officers, non-commissioned officers, and other personnel who required a reliable and effective handgun for personal defense.

After World War II, the Remington Rand Model 1911-A1 Type 3 remained in service with the U.S. military for several more decades, seeing action in subsequent conflicts such as the Korean War and the early years of the Vietnam War.
