Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked, “D127783 RUGER CARBINE / .44 MAGNUM CAL.” with the ruger phoenix logo. The barrel is marked, “STURM, RUGER, AND CO. INC. / SOUTHPORT, CONN. U.S.A.”

Sights / Optics The front sight is a raised base dovetail sight with a brass bead, the rear sight is a folding adjustable U-notch sight.

Stock Configuration & Condition: This rifle has a one piece smooth walnut stock with a straight flat top comb, semi-pistol grip, semi-curved black plastic buttplate, and mid length forend with a metal barrel band. The stock has minor pressure dents, light chipping on the bottom of the grip, and a large pressure dent on the left side. There are no cracks. The LOP is 13.5” from the back of the buttplate to the front of the trigger.  This stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.

Magazine Quantity & Condition: 4 Round Internal Mag Tube. Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates at a 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. There are only very small nicks on the receiver, and the barrel is thinning.The markings are clear. The action has very little wear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition for a C&R.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Ruger .44 Magnum Carbine, officially known as the Ruger Deerstalker Carbine, is a semi-automatic rifle manufactured by Sturm, Ruger & Co. It was introduced in 1961 and remained in production until 1985. Chambered in the powerful .44 Magnum cartridge, this rifle was designed to be a companion to Ruger’s line of revolvers chambered in the same caliber.

The Ruger .44 Carbine features a semi-automatic action, utilizing the blowback principle to cycle the action and chamber the next round. It has an internal tubular magazine located under the barrel, which typically holds several rounds of .44 Magnum ammunition. This design allows for rapid and efficient shooting, making it suitable for hunting, target shooting, and self-defense applications.

Although production of the Ruger .44 Carbine ceased in 1985, it remains highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts for its historical significance and excellent performance. This particular .44 Carbine is in Excellent shape, The barrel is bright and clean with sharp rifling, the action is smooth and the lifter functions flawlessly.
