Action Type: 6-Shot, Double Action / Single Action, Swing-Out, Fluted Cylinder Revolver with ejector.

Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”, the right is marked “44 S.&W. SPECIAL CTG.”. The inside of the ejector shroud is marked “207452”. The bottom of the grip frame is marked “S 98562”.  The crane and cut are marked “22250”.  The sideplate has the S&W monogram logo, the right of the frame has the four-line marcas registradas address.

Barrel Length: 5”, Pinned, with shrouded ejector rod.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated beaded blade pinned to a serrated ramped base pinned to the front of the barrel’s serrated rib. The rear sight is a square notch in a base adjustable for windage and elevation screwed to the topstrap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered walnut with S&W medallions and smooth diamonds around the grip screw escutcheons. There are a couple of very light marks on the bottom faces of the grips. The left grip panel has a small depression at the butt. The checkering is sharp. There are a couple minor losses on the edge of the left grip at the bottom. There are no cracks. The grips are in about Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue with Case Colored Hammer & Trigger

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 90% of its metal finish. The finish has worn off the muzzle, and around some of the leading edges. The balance of the finish has hairline scratches, scuffs, and nicks.  There are some rust freckles on the bottom of the trigger guard. The cylinder has several scuffs and a thick jagged turn line. The checkering on the cylinder release and hammer spur are sharp. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Good condition. There is mild operation wear throughout.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder produces little side to side play in full lockup in all 6 chambers. The double action trigger pull is smooth, the single action is excellent.  The barrel is pinned, the frame has 5 screws. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
