Our Assessment: The Mauser Model 1891, more commonly known as the Argentine Mauser, was one of Mauser’s early forays into smokeless powder rifles. Based on the 1889 Belgian Mauser, which it also shared a cartridge with, the 1891 was primarily fielded by Argentina. Built by Ludwig Loewe and its successor DWM, the 1891 was adopted by Argentina in both rifle and carbine form.

This example was built by DWM, meaning that it was sometime after the name change in 1896. The stock has been sanded and the metal has been refinished. The refinish was done well though as the markings, which are all matching, on the metal are still clearly visible. The stock markings are a bit more difficult to see and have faded due to being sanded over. The bore is very good on this and should make for a great shooter. This would make a good addition to any Mauser or South American collection. Please see our photos.
