Our Assessment:  The Auto Ordnance 1927 A1 is a semi-automatic replica of the famous Thompson submachine gun, often known as the “Tommy Gun.” This firearm is a modern production of the classic Thompson, which played a prominent role in American history, particularly in the era of Prohibition and the early 20th century. Manufactured by Auto-Ordnance, a division of Kahr Arms, the 1927 A1 is designed to bring the nostalgic and iconic design of the original Thompson to modern shooters and collectors.

The 1927 A1 closely mimics the look and feel of the original Thompson. It features the distinctive wood stock, foregrip, and the unmistakable barrel profile that made the original Thompson instantly recognizable. One of the notable differences between the 1927 A1 and the original Thompson is its operation as a semi-automatic, rather than a fully automatic, firearm. This change makes it legal for civilian ownership in many jurisdictions where automatic weapons are heavily restricted or banned.

Chambered typically in .45 ACP, a caliber synonymous with the original Thompson, the 1927 A1 provides the powerful performance that made the original so revered among soldiers, law enforcement, and even gangsters of its time. The 1927 A1 often comes with a high-capacity drum magazine, adding to its historical authenticity and appeal. While the 1927 A1 is a modern firearm, its design, construction, and operation offer a unique window into a bygone era, making it a popular choice among history enthusiasts, collectors, and those who appreciate the distinctive style and legacy of the Tommy Gun.  Please see our photos and good luck on your bid! – L.S.
