Our Assessment:  The Auto-Ordnance TA5 is a modern reimagining of the iconic Thompson submachine gun, commonly known as the “Tommy Gun,” tailored for the civilian market. This example was produced by Auto-Ordnance prior to their purchase by Kahr Arms in 1999. The TA5 is a semi-automatic pistol that retains much of the classic Thompson’s aesthetic and design. This firearm is notable for its historical significance and distinctive appearance, echoing the legacy of one of the most recognizable guns in American history.

Chambered in the classic .45 ACP, the caliber associated with the original Thompson, the TA5 features a 14-inch barrel, making it a more compact version compared to the full-sized models. This size reduction makes the TA5 more suitable for civilian use while maintaining the distinctive Thompson look.

The Auto-Ordnance TA5 not only serves as a functional firearm but also as a tangible link to the rich tapestry of American firearms history. Its appeal lies in its combination of historical design and modern functionality, making it a sought-after piece for collectors, enthusiasts, and admirers of classic American gunsmithing. The TA5 stands as a tribute to the legendary Thompson submachine gun, offering a unique shooting experience imbued with nostalgia and historical significance.  Please see our photos.
