Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “PIETRO BERETTA GARDONE V.T. – MADE IN ITALY”;. The right side of the slide is marked “PATENTED BERETTA USA CORP. ACKK, MD”. The left side of the frame is marked MOD. 84B- CAL 9 SHORT”, the right is marked “PB” and the serial number. The right side of the trigger guard bow is marked with two Italian proofs and “AT” date code in rectangle. The barrel is marked “CAL. 9 SHORT / 380 AUTO” with two proof marks. The grip panels have Beretta’s monogram logo. The magazine is marked “ITALY”; and “CAL. 9 SHORT / .380 AUTO” with three witness holes marked “4 / 8 / 13”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a low profile blade, integral to the slide, with a recessed white dot. The rear sight is a square notched base which is dovetailed onto the slide.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered wood stocks with Beretta monograms on the sides. The left grip panel has a few light scuffs on the smooth border and a compression mark. There are no cracks or chip losses. The small marks will easily go unnoticed. The grips rate in about Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion in the bore. In my opinion the bore rates 8/10.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows edge thinning on the slide and frame. The barrel has very little operational wear from normal cycling. The gun does not appear to have been used much. The screw heads are sharp and pins are serviceable. The markings are crisp. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The pistol features an ambidextrous thumb safety, loaded chamber indicator, magazine disconnect safety and a very simple takedown method. The double and single action trigger pulls are smooth and the slide fits tight to the frame. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a Beretta 84BB in .380 ACP, rating in about Excellent condition, with a bright bore and a nice action. One 13-round magazine is included,giving a leg up on similar pistols in its size class that would normally be single stacked or at about 10 rounds. Beretta’s pistols are famous not only for their accuracy, but for their rugged construction, earning a place in history as reliable items that have earned military and police contracts throughout the 20th century. This should prove to be just as dependable and if you’re looking for a concealed carry or home defense pistol with less kick than a 9mm Parabellum, give this one a look. -L.S.
