Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked, “MOD. BRN-601 CAL. 5.56MM SER. B6010736 BROWNELLS INC MONTEZUMA, IA USA SAFE SEMI”. The barrel is marked “C MP B”. The right side of the front sight is marked “C”. The neck of the bolt head is marked “MP”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is an A1 post iron sight and the rear sight is A1 Type L-type flip aperture.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The buttstock is an E1 style buttstock with sling ring, and serrated buttplate. The pistol grip is an A1 grip with lanyard loop. The handguard is an A1 style triangular handguard. The bottom of the as block has a bayonet lug and sling swivel. The LOP measures 13” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Good overall condition. There are loose storage draglines throughout. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering on the grip is dulled.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. The lower receiver is exceptionally clean with only one loose storage drag line on the right side of the magwell. The Colt A1 upper receiver has some more wear and tear with light scratches and some finish loss on the leading edges and on the rear of the ejection port. The BCG however is very clean and looks to be unfired. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this Retro style rifle rates in about Very condition. The mag release button sticks out a bit too far and if not seated properly won’t push in. Should be a simple fix.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: In beautiful condition that only retro style platforms can glow with, this AR-15/ M16 is the epitome of basic, but not in a bad way. Basic in this case means pre ban factory configuration, reliable, and ready to use.The BRN-601 was created by Brownells to be a faithful rendition of the original m16 rifle manufactured between 1959 and 1964. The BRN-601 represents an almost true iteration of Eugene Stoner’s Original design and philosophy which propelled this design to become the most popular platform in the AR-15. With its solid A1 features, you can give this arm the 21st-century treatment at the range or keep it as a show-and-tell piece. Either way, ya gotta bid on it first!
