Our Assessment:  The Hakim Rifle is a semi-automatic rifle that was developed and produced in Egypt during the 1950s. It is based on the Swedish AG42 Ljungman rifle and was intended to replace the bolt-action Lee-Enfield rifles that were in use by the Egyptian military at the time. The rifle was designed by Dr. Abd al-Hakim Amer, who was Egypt’s Minister of War at the time, hence the name “Hakim” (which means “wise” or “judicious” in Arabic).

The Hakim Rifle uses the 8mm Mauser cartridge and has a 10-round detachable box magazine. It has a gas-operated action and a tipping bolt. It was produced at the Maadi Company for Engineering Industries (also known as the Maadi Company for Engineering and Manufacturing) in Maadi, Egypt. The rifle was used by the Egyptian military and police, as well as by several other countries in the Middle East and Africa. This is a great example with a lot of character that should fit right into any semi-auto or Middle Eastern surplus collection.
