Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked with the factory symbol over 1956 written in Eastern Arabic numerals, 1243 written in Eastern Arabic numerals, Hakim 7.9 written in Arabic, “1243”. The right side of the receiver is marked “HAKIM 7.92 EGYPT”. The safety switch is marked fire and safe in Arabic. The left side of the barrel is marked with an import mark. The rear sight is marked 1-10 using Eastern Arabic numerals.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is an adjustable hooded post. The rear sight is a “U” notched leaf sliding sight escalator
Stock Configuration & Condition: The two piece wood stock has a semi-pistol grip, barrel band with sling loop, metal end-cap with bayonet lug, left-side butt stock sling swivel, and metal buttplate. There are numerous impression marks, scratches, and nicks throughout. The rear upper handguard does not line up perfectly with the forend on the right side. This stock is in Very Good Condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright and the rifling is sharp. There is light erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 65% of its metal finish. There are scratches and scuffs throughout. The top of the bolt carrier is heavily worn and there are large sections of finish loss on the front and back. The receiver is heavily scratched on both sides. The front sling loop is slightly bent. The buttplate has impact marks on the toe section. There is a screw bent over the front trigger assembly screw. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are mostly clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Hakim Rifle is a semi-automatic rifle that was developed and produced in Egypt during the 1950s. It is based on the Swedish AG42 Ljungman rifle and was intended to replace the bolt-action Lee-Enfield rifles that were in use by the Egyptian military at the time. The rifle was designed by Dr. Abd al-Hakim Amer, who was Egypt’s Minister of War at the time, hence the name “Hakim” (which means “wise” or “judicious” in Arabic).
The Hakim Rifle uses the 8mm Mauser cartridge and has a 10-round detachable box magazine. It has a gas-operated action and a tipping bolt. It was produced at the Maadi Company for Engineering Industries (also known as the Maadi Company for Engineering and Manufacturing) in Maadi, Egypt. The rifle was used by the Egyptian military and police, as well as by several other countries in the Middle East and Africa. This example has a nice stock with no major damage but it still has a log of character. The top of the bolt carrier is a bit rough but it does not impede its function. It would fit right into any semi-auto or Middle Eastern surplus collection.
