Action Type: Double Action / Single action, 5-Shot Swing Out Cylinder, with ejector.

Markings: The right side of the barrel is marked “.38 S&W SPL.”.  The Left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”.  The right side of the frame is marked with a Marcas Registradas.  The left side of the frame has a S&W Monogram.  Both grips have S&W medallions. The yoke cut is marked “MOD. 60”.  The crane is marked “63861”. The square butt is marked “R119341”.

Barrel Length: 1 & 13/16″

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a forged low-profile serrated ramped blade that is integral to the barrel rib. The rear sight is a fixed square notch at the rear of a “U” trough machined into the top of the frame.

Stock Configuration & Condition:  The grips are 2 piece checkered round buttwood with S&W medallions at their tops. The grip screw is slightly tool marked. There are a few scattered extremely light handling marks. There is a small chip in the right grip panel near the butt. There are no cracks. Overall, these grips are in very fine condition.

Type of Finish: Stainless Steel

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition:  The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.5/10.

Overall Condition:  This handgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. There are some draglines on the butt from use and storage. There are a few faint scuffs on the front sight. The cylinder also has a barely visible turn line. The screwheads and checkering are sharp. The engraving is well done and definitely enhances the look of the revolver. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The double action is smooth. The cylinder locks up with minimal side-to-side movement. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

It was the first regular production all stainless steel firearm made. The R serial number series for the Model 60 started in 1969. This model has been popular since its inception, with a waiting list at gunshops for up to six months to purchase one when it was first released.
