Markings:  The left side of the magwell is marked “G001531”.  The right side of the magwell is marked “HESSE / ST. PAUL. MN / MODEL H91 / 7.62mm”.  Both sides of the receiver are marked “SF” for the selection options.  The barrel is marked “ASSEM BY CAI ST ALB VT”.  The bolt is marked “RA3817” in electric pencil.    The top of the bolt is marked “HK91”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded post.  The rear sight is an adjustable diopter drum marked 2 3 4.

Stock Configuration & Condition:  The buttstock on this G3 type battle rifle is a G3/HK91 polymer buttstock with a sling well and bar.  The pistol grip is polymer with thumb rest and finger grooves. The handguard is polymer with grooves for a folding bipod.  The LOP measures 14.5” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition. There is some general wear on the polymer surfaces including some light scratches on the nose and toe of the buttplate, some finish loss on the buttstock and on the rear of the handguard. The pistol grip has some handling wear and compression marks.

Bore Condition:  The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is some light visible corrosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 80% of its blue-gray finish.  The screw heads and pins show some tooling. The markings are clear.  There is finish loss below the ejection port and around the edges of the scope mounts.  There are some spots of surface loss on the charging handle housing and one spot on the left side of the receiver. There is moderate operation wear.  Overall, this rifle rates in about Fair condition.  The magwell does not like to accept magazines without a fair use of force.  This rifle we have fired to test due to technical issues prevalent.  The rifle is extremely harsh on brass and dents the casings.  The ejected brass shoots out pretty far. The first time we shot it jammed on the first shot.  After making some adjustment we were able to fire through an entire magazine without jamming.  However the rifle is still harsh on the brass.  We think this might be due to the HK91 Bolt.  The headspace measures .011 which within Spec.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly but is harsh on brass. We have test fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment:  The Hesse H91 is a semiautomatic rifle that is widely recognized as an HK91 clone. Built using surplus parts kits from the HK91, the H91 offers a similar design and functionality as its iconic predecessor.  While there may be some variations in quality due to the use of surplus parts, Hesse aimed to deliver a reliable and affordable alternative to the original HK91. If you’re a fan of the HK91 but seeking a more budget-friendly option, the Hesse H91 provides a chance to own a rifle that closely emulates the renowned HK91.  Just to emphasize, this rifle is very harsh on brass and is a bit finicky.  Please see our photos and good luck on your bid!
