There are cracks near the toe plate on either side of the buttstock. There are a few cracks around the stock pin hole on the left side of the forestock, just in front of the lock plate area. There is also a small chip in the wood at the same location. Overall, the stock is in Good Condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: Excellent, mirror-bright. Though, it should be cleaned before use.

Overall Condition: This flintlock rifle is in Good Condition. The metal surfaces have scratches and handling marks throughout. The brass trigger guard and powder box are the most heavily scratched, but their finish is still bright. The trigger guard does have quite a few spots of finish loss, particularly on the underside. There are also some impact marks on the finger rest. The trigger assembly plate has some minor spots of surface rust. The buttplate heel is worn and has a spot of verdigris. The buttplate also has some pitting. The frizzen face is heavily scuffed from use. The lock plate has areas of surface rust, mostly around under the pan near the frizzen spring.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box Paperwork and Accessories: 1x Gun flint, 1x powder box incorporated into the buttstock.

Our Assessment: This flintlock rifle is mimicking the handling and styling of a mid-to-late 18th century Kentucky longrifle. It has a Green Mountain barrel and a Siler lock, as well as an ornate inset brass-doored powder box on the stock. The wonderfully vibrant curly maple stock invokes a sense of nostalgia reminiscent of a James Fenimore Cooper novel. This would be a great addition to any American contemporary flintlock collection. Please see our photos for a better understanding of the rifle and its condition.
