Bore Condition: The bore is bright. There is no visible erosion in the bore. Features adjustable choke tube that must be removed if shooting .410 Slugs or .45 Colt Ammunition.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. There is minimal surface wear from responsible use and storage. The drag line is crisp on the smooth cylinder. The screw heads are sharp and pins are unmarred. The markings are crisp. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements. The mechanics are Excellent. The trigger is smooth and crisp.

Our Assessment: The Magnum Research BFR (Big Frame Revolver) is a single-action centerfire revolver that is crafted from stainless steel, giving it a charming, vintage look, but maintains such a large profile that it really stands out from anything else at the range. The BFR is a unique handgun that comes in either a 7.5- or 5.25-inch barrel, this one being 7.5 but really 8” if you include the adjustable choke in the barrel, both of which have a 1:20 twist rate and a groove diameter of 0.451 inch. The shorter version measures 12.75 inches overall, while this long-barreled version is an even 15 inches and weighs about 4.5 pounds.
The .45/.410 BFR also comes with a choke tube that helps improve pattern performance, but it must be removed before shooting .410 slugs or .45 Colt ammunition. Cylinder capacity is five rounds, and the single-action trigger breaks at a crisp 2.5 pounds.
An interlock on the loading gate allows the cylinder to rotate without cocking the hammer. The .45/.410 uses Magnum Research’s long cylinder, the same cylinder that’s used for BFRs chambered in .30-30, .45-70 and .444 Marlin. Because this has a long cylinder, it can easily accommodate both 2.5- and three-inch .410 shotshells.
In terms of performance, the Magnum Research .45/.410 is a powerful handgun that draws a crowd wherever it appears. It is capable of shooting light .45 Colt loads from Federal and SIG with ease, barely causing the handgun to move in the rest. The Grizzly +P load is rated at 1,225 fps, but the BFR has been recorded to push it out the muzzle at 1,372 fps, placing it squarely in .454 Casull territory. This round is a compelling choice for bear defense and hunting large game.
