Action Type: This rifle has a lever action with a full-length magazine tube.

Markings: The upper tang is marked “MODEL / 1892”.  The bottom of the receiver is marked “172967”.  The top of the barrel is marked “MARLIN FIRE-ARMS CO. NEW-HAVEN CT., U.S.A. / PAT’D JAN. 18. 1887. APRIL 2.1889.AUG. 12.1890.MAR.1.1892”.  The top of the receiver is marked “MARLIN SAFETY”. The buttplate is marked “MARLIN / M.FA.Co / SAFETY”.

Barrel Length: 24″ Octagonal

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a flip up hooded combination sight.  The rear sight is a u notch dovetailed to the barrel.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with capped forend, straight grip, straight comb and checkered buttplate. There are compression marks, scratches, and scuffs throughout.  There are no cracks however there is a small thin chip in the bottom of the buttstock against the left side of the lower tang.  The LOP measures 13.5″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. Overall, the stocks are in about Good condition as original.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is light gray with well defined rifling. There is scattered light erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 40% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at all edges.  There is oxidation throughout along with some light corrosion.  The edges of the barrel have a few nicks and dings but they remain minor cosmetic only flaws.    The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with serviceable slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Good Plus condition for an Antique

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lever has little play in the receiver. The rifles action is smooth and the trigger pull is crisp.  We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
