Our Assessment:  The Marlin Model 9 Camp Carbine, also known as the Self-Loading Camp Carbine, was a semi-automatic rifle that was introduced in 1985 and produced until 1999.  It was designed as a lightweight, compact firearm for use in camping, hiking, and survival situations, chambered in 9mm Luger.

The rifle features a blowback action with a detachable box magazine that holds 12 rounds (optional 20 rounds in some models). It has a 16.5-inch Micro-Groove barrel and a machined steel receiver that was sandblasted to prevent glare. The overall length of the rifle is 35.5 inches, and it weighs approximately 6.75 pounds.

The Model 9 Camp Carbine had a distinct appearance that gave a nod to the military surplus M1 Garand and Carbine, with a Garand-style safety and a one-piece walnut-finished stock. It was drilled and tapped for scope accommodations with a Wide-Scan cutaway hood front sight and adjustable rear sight.

The rifle’s action includes a manual bolt hold-open with an automatic last-shot bolt hold-open and a loaded chamber indicator. The stock came standard with a rubber rifle butt pad and swivel studs.

The Model 9 Camp Carbine was well-regarded for its accuracy, reliability, and ease of use. It was also versatile, as it could accept magazines from popular pistols.  Its lightweight design and compact size made it a great choice for camping, hiking, and other outdoor activities.

Although the Model 9 Camp Carbine was discontinued in 1999, it remains popular among collectors and enthusiasts. Its unique appearance, reliable performance, and historical significance make it a sought-after firearm for those interested in Marlin’s history and the evolution of semi-automatic rifles.  This Marlin Model 9 comes with its original factory box and manual making it ideal for any collector.
