Our Assessment: The Plainfield PM 30 is a variant of the M1 Carbine rifle that was produced by Plainfield Machine Company in New Jersey during the 1960s and 1970s. The PM 30 P was designed to be a civilian version of the M1 Carbine, and it was chambered for the .30 Carbine cartridge.

The Plainfield Machine Company began producing the PM 30 P in 1961, and it quickly gained popularity among civilian shooters due to its lightweight and compact design.  The rifle features an 18-inch barrel and a paratrooper telescoping wire stock.

In the 1970s, the PM 30 came under scrutiny by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), which had concerns about the legality of the rifle’s design. The ATF argued that the PM 30 was too similar in appearance and function to the military M1 Carbine, and that it should be subject to the same regulations as military firearms.

As a result of the ATF’s scrutiny, production of the PM 30 was halted in 1978. However, the rifle remains a popular collector’s item among firearms enthusiasts, and it is still in use by some law enforcement agencies and private citizens.

Overall, the Plainfield PM 30 is an interesting chapter in the history of the M1 Carbine, and it reflects the enduring popularity of this classic firearm among American shooters and collectors.  This Vintage M1 Carbine is in Very Good condition and makes an excellent collectable for any collection.  Please see our photos, specs below, and good luck on your bid!
