Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U. S. OF AMERICA / -WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL-”, “WINCHESTER / -TRADE MARK-”, and “MODEL-70 – .30 GOV’T ‘06-”. The left side of the barrel at the receiver and the left side of the receiver at the barrel are marked with a circled “WP” proof. The left side of the receiver is marked “WINCHESTER / -TRADE MARK-”. The right side of the receiver’s chamber ring is marked “55527”.

Barrel Length: 24”

Sights/Optics: The front sight is a ramped blade, dovetailed onto a stippled ramp base, that is fixed to the barrel.  The rear sight is a “U” notched leaf that is adjustable for elevation and is in a slide-step elevator that is dovetailed onto the barrel. The receiver has 4 drilled, tapped, and filled holes.

Stock Configuration and Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered walnut with c semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, 2 sling ring brackets and ventilated rubber buttplate.  The LOP measures 13.75” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate and about 13.5 to the wood respectively.  Overall, the stock is in Excellent condition. The checkering is crisp and the peaks are mostly sharp with light wear on the peaks primarily on the grip.

Finish Originality: Refurbished Stock, Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with well defined rifling. There is no erosion.  In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 8/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 90% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows thinning on the leading edges.  There are some light scratches on the barrel and receiver.  There is a heavy scuff mark on the right side of the stock below the bolt.  There are some scuff marks on the trigger guard and the internal magazine cover.  The screw heads range from sharp to tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Very Good condition as C&R.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is a safety mounted on the rear of the control-feed bolt. Pushed forwards, the safety is OFF. If pulled back all the way, it locks both the bolt and the trigger. If pulled back half-way, it blocks only the trigger. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
