Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked “386” inside a circle outline, “24879”, and CAL. 7.62x39MM SEMI-AUTO”. The left side is marked “MADE IN CHINA” just above the magazine release catch and then marked “VALLEY GUN LA CA 91324” above the trigger. The left side of the receiver cover is marked “4879” and the chamber is marked “4879”. The bolt carrier group is marked “4879”. There is a metal inlay in the buttpad marked “386 MADE IN CHINA”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is an adjustable hooded post. The rear sight is an L-Type peep aperture.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is wood sporter model with checkered traditional pistol grip, sling swivel in the bottom of the buttstock, sling loop on the left side of the gas block, and checkered handguard. This is a slant cut milled receiver. The LOP measures 13.9” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition. There are some sparse compression marks in the stocks and the checkering is crisp but slightly dulled on some of the peaks. There are no cracks. There are two small chips on the bottom of the buttstock where the wood wraps around the lower tang.
Magazine Quantity & Condition: One 5rd 7.62×39 Chinese Flat Back Blued magazine in Very Good condition. The spring is strong and the leading edges are sharp.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows minimal wear along the receiver with some light scratches. The screw heads are sharp and the pins are unmarred. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition for a Pre Ban rifle Import.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: Intended to be a semi-automatic hunting rifle, this AK47 came around after the 1989 import ban but lands before the AWB of 1994. This is the traditional well-made, solid firearm that came from the Chinese manufacturing world before the 1994 ban went into effect. The wood furniture is gorgeous and the metal receivers shine with a brightness that only pre-1994 guns can attain. Inspired by the Valmet Hunter, made by the Chinese, and imported by the California based Valley Guns, this rifle is an odd duck but definitely worth your time and attention and a place in that collection.
