Our Assessment: This is a Remington Model 722 from 1955. Remington, like many other gunmakers, had nearly completely ceased production of commercial rifles during WWII to focus on the war effort. They learned valuable lessons during the war about how to produce large volumes of rifles while retaining the quality needed for a rifle that you can trust your life to. After the war, they put these lessons to good use, and the Model 722 was the result. It had everything you needed, nothing you didn’t and despite being inexpensive to manufacture, was nonetheless reliable, durable, and accurate. Many of the innovations of the Model 722 would be retained for the now-famous Model 700 rifle. This example is from 1955 and is chambered in .244 Rem. This one has a bore with strong rifling and this should make for a nice gun for target shooting and hunting. Please see our photos and good luck! – L.S.
