Markings: The top of the receiver is marked “U.S. Carbine CAL. .30”, “Inland Div. 853646”. The front exterior of the barrel is marked “Inland MFG DIV. General Motors 10-43”. The top of the barrel underneath the handguard is marked “P”, “3”. The magazine release is marked “M”. The right side of the rear sight is marked “I.R. CO.” The inside of the buttplate is marked “B257614”, with a circle marking, and “12”. The left rear side of the stock is marked “RIA EB” in a square. The top left side of the grip is marked “P”. The bottom of the grip is marked “RI 3””. The right side of the barrel band is marked “JM”. The inside of the stock is marked “IO”. The inside of the upper handguard is marked “IO”. The rivets on the leather section of the buttstock are marked “7/4”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a fixed blade with protective ears. The rear sight is a late sliding adjustable aperture sight dovetailed to the receiver.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a Low Wood M1A1 stock with wire buttstock, Type III barrel band with a sling loop, and a sling loop on the bottom of the ‘Slim Jim’ grip. The upper handguard is Type II with 2 rivets and deep narrow sight groove. The wire that makes up the buttstock measures .310-.320 which are correct dimensions for an original. The LOP measures 13.125” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are compression marks, scuffs, and scratches throughout the wood. There are larger compression marks on the left side of the stock where the buttplate hits when the stock is folded. There is a small hole in the right side of the stock, above the safety. There are a few larger divots on the upper handguard. There is a thin crack extending forward off the front of the recoil plate on the right side of the stock. The stock folds correctly. The leather is worn but not cracking. There is a hole in the bottom section of the leather. The stock rates in about Good Condition. This is an Authentic Original WW2 M1A1 Carbine Stock.

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright and the rifling is shallow. There is moderate erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 80% of its metal finish. There are scuffs and scratches throughout the metal surfaces. The bolt body has minor spots of pitting and erosion. The receiver has a hue of patina, as does the wire body of the stock. The oiler body has a large amount of surface rust. The screw heads are sharp, though the screw head on the barrel band has seen some moderate use. The markings are somewhat faded. Overall, this rifle rates in about Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with a green canvas sling and oiler in the stock.
Our Assessment: The M1A1 Carbine is a lightweight, semi-automatic rifle that was used by the US military during World War II and the Korean War. It was designed to replace the heavier and bulkier M1 Garand rifle in certain situations, such as for troops who required a smaller and lighter weapon, such as paratroopers, support personnel, and officers.
The M1A1 Carbine was first introduced in May of 1942 and quickly became a popular weapon among American troops. It was used extensively throughout World War II, particularly by airborne troops, and it saw action in every major theater of the war. After the war, the M1A1 remained in service with the US military during the Korean War, where it proved to be a reliable and effective weapon in jungle and mountain terrain.
This example is an Inland M1A1 originally built sometime in late 1943, that was rebuilt at the Rock Island Arsenal after the war.. It retains most, if not all, of its original markings, with the rebuild mainly adding late and post war improvements to the rifle. Though it has gone through a rebuild, it retains its original barrel. The bore is semi-bright, with some erosion and shallow rifling. This is an adequate example of an oft-relished after rifle, made famous by US paratroopers. This will make a great addition to any US or WWII surplus collection, and it has the benefit of being easy to store too. Please see our photos.
