Our Assessment: The Swiss Arms SG 553P is a civilian variant of the SG 553 rifle, designed and manufactured by Swiss Arms AG, a Swiss firearms company.
The SG 553P was first introduced in 2008, shortly after the military and law enforcement version of the rifle, as a semi-automatic civilian firearm for the Swiss and international markets. The “P” in the name stands for “Police,” indicating that it was primarily designed for law enforcement applications.
The SG 553P features a shorter barrel than its military counterpart and a Picatinny rail on top of the receiver for attaching various accessories. The pistols come in various chambers but this particular one is chambered in .300 Whisper, a near identical round to the .300 Blackout.

Markings: The left side of the receiver is marked, “SAN Imports Frisco, TX SIG SAUER AG , Switzerland / 20 SG 553P .300 Whisper 300-0038 20 0038” with “S” and “1” for the safety selector. The right side of the bolt is marked, “0038 20” with a proof.
Barrel Length: 11.5” 13.25 with bird cage flash hider.
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a flip up blade that is mounted to the gas adjustment block. The rear sight is a flip up aperture that folds down flush with the base of the picatinnies. The top of the receiver has a picatinny rail for all your favorite sights and optics as well.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The pistol grip is serrated synthetic slide out trap door for storage compartment. The vented handguard is synthetic ribs and hand finger grooves. The bottom and left side of the gas block and both sides of the rear sight has sling loops. There is no sign of handling wear. There are no chips or cracks. The stock rates in Excellent condition. Features ambidextrous magazine release paddle and ambidextrous safety.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 99% of its metal finish. The screw heads are sharp and the markings are clear. Overall, this pistol rates in about Excellent condition. There are still traces of factory grease on the receiver.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
