Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is highly defined. There is some very faint erosion.  In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10 for C&R.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 60% of its metal finish.  The balance of the finish shows a good coverage of light scratches, some corrosion on the frame and side plate, some nicks, and mild operation wear. The screw heads are serviceable with strong slots and only some light tooling. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Very Good condition for C&R.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder produces mild side to side play in full lockup in all 6 chambers with no measurable fore to aft play. The double action trigger pull is smooth, the single action is crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.

Our Assessment: The Smith & Wesson Model 1926, also known as the .44 Hand Ejector 3rd Model, is a distinguished piece of firearm history, embodying the craftsmanship and innovation of the early 20th century. This particular model, often recognized for its pre-war production, features the robust N-frame, designed to accommodate the powerful .44 Special cartridge. The “5-screw” designation refers to the five screws in the frame used in its construction, indicative of the model’s earlier production runs before Smith & Wesson moved to a four-screw configuration in later models. This feature, along with the square butt design of the grip, contributes to the revolver’s classic aesthetic and ergonomic handling.  This revolver not only represents the pinnacle of early 20th-century firearm design and craftsmanship but also stands as a testament to the rich history of American gunmaking and the enduring legacy of Smith & Wesson’s commitment to quality and innovation.  Please see our photos and good luck on your bid! – L.S.
