Action Type: 6-Shot, Double Action / Single Action, Swing-Out, Fluted Cylinder Revolver with ejector.

Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”, the right is marked “44 S.&W. SPECIAL CTG.”. The inside of the ejector shroud, rear of the cylinder, and rear flat of the crane are serialized to the frame with the barrel flat and cylinder markings preceded by “S”. The crane and cut are marked “53245”, the cut is also marked with “E”. The sideplate has the S&W monogram logo, the right of the frame has the four-line marcas registradas address. The butt is marked with the serial number “S  141801”.

Barrel Length: 6 1/2”, Pinned, with shrouded ejector rod.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a patridge blade integral to a serrated, ramped base fixed to the front of the barrel’s serrated rib. The rear sight is a square notch in a base adjustable for windage and elevation screwed to the topstrap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered walnut with S&W medallions and smooth diamonds around the grip screw escutcheons. There are a couple of very light marks on the bottom faces of the grips. The right grip panel has a dent just above the medallion. The left grip panel has a small depression at the butt. The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The grips are in about Very Good overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue with Case Colored Hammer & Trigger

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10. The bore is amazing for a pistol of this age.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 90% of its metal finish. The finish has worn off the muzzle, below the hammer, and on the face of the trigger guard. The balance of the finish has hairline scratches throughout and scattered small pits. The cylinder has several drag lines and a visible turn line. The front sight sits a little loose in its recess. The checkering on the cylinder release and hammer spur are very sharp. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder produces very little side to side play in full lockup in all 6 chambers with no measurable fore to aft play. The double action trigger pull is smooth, the single action is one of the best this writer has ever felt. The barrel is pinned, the frame has 5 screws. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
