Our Assessment:  The Smith & Wesson Model 586-2 with a 6-inch barrel and four-position silhouette competition front sight is a specialized variant of the esteemed 586 series, tailor-made for precision shooting. Chambered in the versatile .357 Magnum, this revolver offers the dual advantages of robust stopping power and ammunition flexibility, as it is also capable of firing .38 Special rounds. The “-2” denotes several design improvements, including a changed hammer nose and bushing, aimed at increasing the overall durability and reliability of the gun. This particular model stands out for its advanced sighting system, specifically designed to excel in silhouette shooting competitions.

The four-position silhouette competition front sight is an adjustable feature that allows for quick and easy changes to the sight picture, depending on the range and size of the target. This system pairs exceptionally well with the adjustable rear sights, offering a highly customizable and precise aiming solution. The 6-inch barrel provides an extended sight radius, further contributing to the gun’s accuracy. The longer barrel, combined with the full-underlug design, adds weight to the muzzle, aiding in recoil management and providing a balanced shooting experience.
