Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “9mm” and the right side is marked “SMITH & WESSON”. The Left side has S&W’s monogram logo, the right side plate of the frame is marked “MADE IN U.S.A. MARCAS REGISTRADAS SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS.” and “ Pro Series”. The inside of the crane cut is marked, “CXX5287/ 98-6”. The crane is marked “609”. The left and right side of the rubber grips are marked with the Smith and Wesson Logo.
Barrel Length: 5 1/8” Teardrop profile Barrel
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a black patridge blade pinned to a rise in the rib. The rear sight is now replaced by a piece of Picatinny rail which brings up a rather nice sight picture. The rear sight has been removed; it was a flat top, square notched leaf in a base that is micrometer-click adjustable for windage and elevation. The rear sight is in a bag in the blue factory case and will reinstall if desired.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are S&W rubber overmolded cobblestone textured grips with S&W logo medallions and comes with an extra set of wood grips The texturing is strong with minimal wear. The grips rate in Excellent overall condition.
Type of Finish: Stainless steel
Finish Originality: Factory Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling retains definition. There is no visible erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows some wear from use. The screw heads are sharp with strong slots. The markings are clear. The cylinder has a thin but visible turn line. Overall, this handgun rates in about Very Good condition. Please see our photos.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly with a very small amount of side-to-side play in lockup. This pistol has excellent lock up and an extremely crisp, smooth, trigger pull and action especially in single action. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with the original rear sight and the Serialized Snap Case.
Our Assessment: Jerry Miculick shot a balloon at 1000 yards with a pistol just like this. Look it up if you don’t believe.
