Our Assessment: This Model 44  is a falling block design from the beginning of the 20th Century. This rifle is chambered in .25 Rimfire and can be used for small game hunting, varmint control or just an interesting conversation piece from the previous century. Good luck in your bidding!

Action Type: Single Shot Falling Block Rifle

Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “J. STEVENS A. & T. CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS, MASS. U.S.A.”. The left side of the barrel is marked “25. R.F.”  The left side of the receiver by the chamber is marked with an encircles “I”.  The bottom of the barrel is marked, “10 449”.  The lower tang is marked, “12 943”.

Barrel Length: 24”, 1/3 Octagonal 2/3 Round

Sights / Optics:  There are no front or rear sights.  The top of the barrel has also been drilled, tapped but not filled for the provision of mounting a scope.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece wood featuring a schnabel forend,monte carlo stock, with steel checkered buttplate. There are a few light scratches and nicks scattered throughout. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 14” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The buttplate has some light wear and some trapped dirt in the grooves. The pistol cap has fallen off and some old adhesive remains.   The stock is in Good overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 80% of its metal finish. There are a couple of light scratches on the barrel, a patch of finish wear at the muzzle and some light surface oxidation on the middle of the barrel. The receiver has some moderate amounts of corrosion on both sides.  The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
