Our Assessment:  Taurus produced its first revolver in 1941, but it wouldn’t export the revolver to the US market until 1953. Once upon a time, this company was linked to Smith & Wesson but that relationship would end in 1973. Taurus USA came about in 1988 to better capture the US revolver market and the manufacturing would eventually move to Miami, FL in 2009. The Judge series was introduced in 2006 and comes in a few barrel length and finish options. This matte stainless steel unit takes 45 Colt or 410 shotgun shells, making it an option for personal or home defense despite its almost comical large size. It’s a point and shoot type of gun that you won’t be breaking any distance records with. The rifling in the barrel is shallower compared to most rifles or pistols due to Taurus’s attempt to compromise between the two different ammunitions. As it is, the recoil is alleged to be on par with other revolvers and the rubber grip helps you keep your grip. The textured hammer and cylinder release are easy to reach and manipulate at a moment’s notice, which also helps in this firearm’s other role as a pest gun. No rattlesnake, rabid rats, or carjackers will get the best of you if you have this gun in your hand. But if you’re not looking for a practical defense gun and just something you can have a good time with, this is also a great platform for you.
