Markings: The top of the barrel is marked, “CIMARRON’S REPEATING ARMS. FREDERICKSBURG.TEXAS.U.S.A. / –KING’S IMPROVEMENT PATENTED MARCH 29.1866.OCTOBER 16.1860”. The top of the chamber is marked, “44 W.C.F”. The bottom of the receiver is marked, “CAT.1574”. The bottom of the tang is marked, “A.UBERTI MADE IN ITALY 83154”. The upper tang is marked, “Model 1873”. The left side of the barrel is marked “MADE IN ITALY”.
Barrel Length: 19” Round
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade fixed to the front barrel band. The rear sight is an elevator sight that is dovetailed to the rear of the barrel.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with straight grip, straight comb and steel buttplate. There are some light scratches and a couple small compression marks on the stocks. There are no nicks, chips, or cracks. The LOP measures 13.75″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. Overall, the stocks are in about Fine condition. There is a sling ring on the left side of the receiver.
Type of Finish: Bone Charcoal Case Hardened, trigger, hammer, and lever. Blued barrel , receiver, and buttplate.
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright with well defined rifling. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Excellent condition. There are a few very light scratches and scuffs on the barrel most like from storage wear. Other than that this rifle is exceptionally clean and well kept. There is some wear where the dust cover slides.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards. Has lever lock safety.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with its factory box with Owner’s Manual and paperwork.
Our Assessment: Based on The Gun That Won The West, the 1873, by far Winchester’s most successful run of repeating rifles, this rifle is a faithful and beautiful production. Chambered in the classic and original 44-40 cartridge, the 1873 would prove to be a favorited rifle in the hands of none other than Buffalo Bill Cody and Belle Star. This Cimarron rifle is beautifully crafted by Uberti Stoeger with a gorgeous bore, strong mechanics, and would make a great addition to any collection.
