Markings: The left of the slide is marked “MANUFACTURE D’ARMES DES PYRENEEES FSIS – HENDAYE -“, the right is marked “”UNIQUE” Mod / D.4 -Cal .22 L.R.-“. The right of the frame is marked with the serial number.
Barrel Length: 9” including factory muzzle-brake.
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade pinned to the front of the muzzle brake, adjustable for elevation. The rear sight is a square notch adjustable for windage in a base dovetailed to the slide.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is one-piece checkered black synthetic with a thumb-shelf on the left side for a right-handed shooter. The grip has a few scattered light marks. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grip is in about Fine condition.

Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright, the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates 10 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 70% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at all edges. There is scattered finish wear, most notable on the top of the barrel, the left of the slide and the frontstrap. The left of the slide also has some minor surface erosion. The frontstrap has discolored from oxidation. There is some other scattered minor surface oxidation. There are some light nicks and scratches. The action shows operational wear. The screw heads are tool marked with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions entirely correctly. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: Manufacture D’Armes de Pyrénées Françaises (MAPF) was formed in 1923 and was noted for the vast number of brand names and pseudonyms under which its Unique family was sold. The Unique brand was also made by a Spanish gun-making firm in Eibar Spain (or at least they made parts for Unique pistols sold by MAPF). Unique Model D was a French small-caliber target pistol, manufactured by Manufacture d’ Armes des Pyrénées Françaises (MAPF). It was introduced in 1954, and produced in several versions, from D1 to D6, that differed in barrel length, some equipped with a factory muzzle-brake. This D-4 ought to make for a fun plinker even today, and certainly has a distinctive appearance. Please see our photos and good luck in your bidding!
