Markings:  The rear of the receiver is marked “J & R ENG. / CAL. 9mm M68 / SO. EL MONTE. CALIF. 01386”.

Barrel Length:  16” with fixed muzzle attachment.

Sights / Optics:  The front sight is a is a fixed blade between two protective ears screwed to the receiver.  The rear sight is an aperture between two protective ears screwed to the receiver.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The buttstock and handguard are wood.  The buttstock is screwed to the bottom and back of the receiver.  The handguard is a rounded oversized plate screwed to the bottom of the receiver. The barrel is fixed to the receiver via a knurled barrel nut.  The grips are checkered synthetic with an oversized synthetic backstrap. The LOP measures 12” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttstock.  The stock rates in Very Good condition. There are no chips or cracks. There are some loose storage marks and light scratches.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is light visible erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its finish. The balance of the finish shows scratches on the receiver along with a few scuffs, nicks, and spots of finish loss on the edges.  The screw heads are sharp and the pins are unmarred. The markings are clear. Overall, this Vintage rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment:  The 1960’s and 70’s procured a lot of unique and quite frankly weird firearms.  This is an M68 9mm Carbine manufactured by J&R Engineering who later became Wilkinson Arms is the precursor to the Terry Carbine.  Produced for a very short few years in very limited quantities, this vintage almost Atomic Age looking carbine is even the early model featuring a wood buttstock.  If you are looking to expand that collection with a collectors item that’s both weird and unique, this is a perfect item to grab.
