Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “-WINCHESTER MODEL 70 308 WIN ONLY- / -WINCHESTER IS A REGISTERED TRADEMARK OF OLIN CORPORATION-“, the right is marked “-MODEL 70 COYOTE LIGHT- / -Imported by BACO Inc., Morgan, Utah – Made in Portugal by Browning Viana-“. The left-rear of the barrel and left-front of the receiver each have a Winchester proof. The left of the receiver is marked “WINCHESTER”. The right of the chamber ring is marked “35GZT08269”, the bolt is marked “08269”.

Sights / Optics: There is no provision for iron sights. The top of the receiver is drilled and tapped with a one-piece 1″ scope mount installed.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a Bell & Carlson synthetic with vented semi-beavertail forend, checkered pistol grip, straight comb, black rubber Decelerator buttpad, a sling stud in the belly, a sling stud and a bipod stud in the forend. The stock has no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/2″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the pad. The pad has minor wear and is still supple. Overall, the stock is in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion, but there is some stubborn copper fouling in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9+ out of 10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are a few minor scuffs and the action shows very light operational wear. The screw heads have strong sockets. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. This rifle employs a control-feed bolt. The safety is mounted at the back of the bolt on the right side. It has three positions. Pushed all the way forwards, the safety is off and ready to fire. In the middle position, the safety blocks the trigger, but allows the bolt to be opened for loading and unloading. In the rear position, the safety blocks the trigger and the bolt. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a Winchester Model 70 Coyote Light chambered for .308 Winchester. The Coyote Light has a fluted heavy profile barrel, a ventilated Bell & Carlson synthetic stock and features the original control-feed bolt that made the Model 70 famous. This example appears to have seen limited, if any real use and is ready to be set up with the optic of your choice. Please see our photos and good luck!
