Markings: The top of the magwell is marked with a boxed “Sterling” stamp, “SMG”, “MK4 (L2A3)”, and “No KR54459”. The underside is marked with a boxed “Sterling” stamp, “Patent No.s”, “559469”, “566875”, “579660”, “686628”, and “In UK and Corresponding Foreign Patents”. The left side of the receiver is marked “WISE LITE ARMS BOYD, TX.”, “MOD. COLEFIRE MAGNUM”, “S/A PISTOL”, “CAL. 7.62X25MM”, and “WLA29-P0244”. The left side of the frame is marked “A R S” for the selector. The right side of the grip is marked “9 602 178 S59 I” and “FR EE LO CK”. The right side of the bolt is marked “S60 9 602 153 Z653”. One magazine is marked “7.62×25”, “12985”, and “M/13” on its left side. The other magazine is marked “762 X 25 ONLY” in red along its spine.

Barrel Length: 4.5”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade post screwed into a frame mounted base set between two protective wings. The rear sight is a flip up dual aperture pinned into a two-winged protective base.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a single piece of black checkered bakelite. There are scuffs and scratches throughout. The front and backstrap are both more heavily worn than the sides. There is a long, deeper scratch on the backstrap. The grip rates in about Good overall condition.

Magazine Quantity & Condition: 2x 25 round converted STEN mags in Good Condition.

Type of Finish: Blue, black wrinkle paint

Finish Originality: Original to rework

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is light erosion in the bore.

In this writer’s opinion, this bore rates 8 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its metal finish as reworked. There are light scuffs and scratches on the receiver and frame paint. There is a small impact mark on the bottom of the barrel near the muzzle. The screw heads show light use. The markings are mostly legible, though some of them are difficult to read because of the paint. Overall, this handgun rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Wise Lite S/A Colefire Magnum Pistol is a pistol built by Wise Lite using Sterling Mk. 4 submachine gun parts. Built at a time when 7.62x25mm Tokarev was cheap, Wise Lite combined the Sterling parts with new, shorter barrels into a pistol form-factor. This example retains nearly all of its current finish, with minor scuffs and scratches throughout. The grip is worn on the front and rear sides, but there are no cracks or chips. The bore is in very nice condition, meaning that this was well-taken care of considering nearly all 7.62x25mm you encounter is corrosive military surplus. The magazines are converted STEN mags  that have been crudely welded on the spines. This is an odd but interesting pistol that would make for a neat experience at the range. Please see our photos.
