Stock Configuration & Condition:  The hardwood stock has a traditional grip, metal nose caps, a stacking loop, two sling loops and a metal buttplate with hinged door for storage in the butt. The buttplate has lost the finish and the checkering has dulled except on the cover door where it is still semi sharp. The wood shows scratches, scuffs and depressions throughout with a chip out of the left side near the midpoint on the receiver. The LOP measures 13” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The grooves are light gray and the rifling is deep. There is minor erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 6/10.

Overall Condition: The rifle’s metal surface shows some very minor wear. The exposed barrel, gas tube and muzzle show thinning finish with light surface scratches. The receiver, bolt and charging handle show hardly any wear with finish loss only on operational surfaces and on the charging handle. Overall this rifle is in Good condition as a CMP Service Grade rifle.

Mechanics:  The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes the certificate of authenticity, shipping checklist, manual, Armorer’s tag, chamber flag, trigger lock, en bloc clip x 1, and green canvas sling.

Our Assessment: The U.S. Rifle, Caliber .30, M1 is known affectionately as “the Garand” after its inventor, John Garand. The rifle would become the first standard-issue semi-automatic infantry rifle in the world. While some countries entered the war with limited issued semi-automatic rifles or developed such rifles during the war, America was the only nation to enter with its Army issuing autoloading rifles on a large scale. General Patton famously referred to the rifle as “the greatest battle implement ever devised”. The rifle was chambered in .30-06 Springfield, a powerful and effective cartridge that provided good range and stopping power. It featured an eight-round en-bloc clip, which was inserted into the rifle’s internal magazine. When the last round was fired, the clip would automatically eject with a distinctive “ping,” signaling to the shooter that it was time to reload. Millions were produced during WWII and hundreds of thousands afterward, seeing use through the Korean War and into the Vietnam War. Interestingly, while many other weapons and military items would see production contracts sent out to otherwise non-related companies, during WWII production remained with Springfield Armory and Winchester. It was only after the war that production would be contracted out to another gunmaker, Harrington & Richardson, as well as the agricultural equipment maker, International Harvester. Today, the M1 Garand remains a popular choice among collectors, shooters, and enthusiasts, prized for its historical significance, engineering excellence, and timeless design. Its legacy continues to endure as a symbol of American military prowess and technological advancement. Please see our photos and best of luck with your bidding!!!-R.L.
